“Drunk In Love” (Raw Original, 2011)
By Shane Coffey
After writing my short film of the same title, I wrote this song with hopes that a great jazz band would take it on as one of their own. Through friends I met Emily St. Amand-Poliakoff & David Elsendbroich, who - at the time - were playing clubs in local LA jazz bars under the name Hi Fi Honeydrops. Their covers of Billie Holiday, Django Reinhardt, and many other signatures were spot on, and - goddamn it - made me nostalgic for a past time I was never a part of.
It turned out that Emily, David, and I had all attended college together. After befriending the band, I asked them to play a live set for my film. Because they were (and still are) brilliant musicians (and the fact they only performed covers), an original was necessary.
One night before shooting the film, I wrote the song Drunk In Love, recorded it A cappella on my computer, brought it to the band, and asked them to make it better.
You are listening to my 2nd stab at singing the goddamned thing.

I wrote the Drunk In Love lyrics for my 2011 short film of the same title. If you’ve seen the film, then you’ve heard the song; however, I have never released the song on its own until today. The song features friends and collaborators Emily St. Amand-Poliakoff & David Elsenbroich (both responsible for the song’s music) performing live in a downtown LA loft. Because of time, we were only able to get three takes of their performance.
